Portrait

Here come my weekly drawings! Really appreciate your support if you have been following my blog updates.

I wanted to make a drawing of my new toy collection "Jenny Doll", but Japanese manga style is really not my thing, so I gave it up.

David was right, if you made it human size, it would look just like a blow-up doll.

So, I decided to make a drawing of Blythe Doll.

Honestly, it didn't look as good as I expected. I don't think it's easier to do a portrait of something inanimate like a doll, all about the expression in the eyes.

In a few hours, I decided to make another drawing because the previous one was not so good. The above are my art inspiration.

Found this attractive girl on a 60s American AD. Quickly made a drawing and it turned out to be pretty good. And this is what I am talking about, the expression in the eyes.

I posted both drawing on Instagram and hashtagged "drawing", "artwork" and "illustration", and it actually brought the attention of the users who had same interest, most of them were art students and freelance illustrators. :)

If you like my artworks or pictures pls follow me on Instagram, my user name is "pinkynicky".

I gotta go back to work now. Happy Wednesday!

When you are so burnt out at work...

What do you do when you are so burn out at work?

When I woke up in a morning... That was hilarious and actually made my day. lol

Sick of diet lunch? Make fun of it! I took a picture of the apple for my lunch, quickly edited it and tagged my colleague in HK who was a big fan of Annoying Orange.

Some people are just too boring to spend a little time to decorate their office desk. Well, maybe they are just too "busy". (rolling my eyes)

Who doesn't like Twinings tea!? A tour guide kindly brought those tea bags from UK, it was so nice of her. I always wish someday we could have a decent pantry room where we could have nice tea and coffee, just like what those people do in the TV series.

Yay! It's autumn

I am happy it's getting cooler, now I can get up early and have a good breakfast on the weekend.

I did not get early enough, so it became my brunch. The Agnes b. Cafe near my place was really cozy, especially in the morning. No annoying kids!

Just me, myself and flip flops. Sometimes we do need a break from work, family and friends.

Look what I got at Accessorize! I only paid $25 for those cute stuffs. :)

This is a real drawing!

Here comes my weekly drawing! Yes, I've started drawing again with pencils and papers. :P

Found an art store near my home, well, 5 mins by MRT.

Got graphite pencils, water-soluble color pencils, a sketch book and a rubber eraser. The owner helped me a little because I had not shopped in an art store for ages.

I made a quick sketch the night I got my art supplies. The idea actually came from the movie "The Hunger Games", but in the movie they used little parachutes to deliver medical cream and soup. So I was thinking, it would be awesome to have someone delivered a sweet to you when you were in a bad mood.

Finally got it colored on Saturday, I spent more than 2 hours to get it done. This was a lot harder than digital painting. Phew~ Doesn't look too bad huh? ;)

And here comes the picture of my boy and I. I told him I really liked the fact we both liked drawing, even if we were in different styles. I need to make him draw more and post them up here.

A good breakfast will make your day!

Ever since I started to a starch-free diet, I rarely ate much rice, noodles or bread. Breakfast somehow has become the most pleasant meal of a day.

So, I made this drawing.

I was too lazy to draw a German sausage, so I drew those Japanese-style pan-fried hot dogs instead, whch are shaped like octopuses with a knife.

What's your favorite? Western-style or Asian-style?

No starch after lunch? Are you kidding me?

Well, I have been keeping to a starch-free diet for a couple of days. Now I just miss the real food...

Look at what I had for lunch.

I am allowed to have a "big meal" once every week, but, only for lunch.

I planned to have lunch at Jake's Country Kitchen or the food court of Mitsukoshi, but it seemed like my friend Ffion had been receiving too much stress from work and definitely needed a really good meal, so, we went to Chili's.

I tried not to eat to much, so I left 2/3 of the food to her. :P

This is one of our favorite dishes, can you believe we had this three times in a row?

I wish I could have more of these! The Calamares Fritos(fried squid rings) were so yummy!!

I am back, with a new hairstyle.

Regarding the long blog silence, well,  I had been busy and lazy. Good thing is, everything is getting better, and my life is almost back to normal.

So, I decided to have a haircut on the first day of Sept.

Before.

After.

I wanted to have an emo hairstyle, but my hair was too short and needed to be colored. Even so, I was still pleased with the outcome; I told the hair dresser she made me like Joan Jett, and she started laughing.

I guess this is what the cute emo girls like to do with their hair - a bow hair clip. I gotta have my hair highlighted in pink when it gets cold, David will love it. ;)

Rain rain go away

Yesterday mom and I had lunch at our favorite Vietnamese restaurant, everything was good till it started to rain on our way back home. Unfortunately none of us brought an umbrella, so, we got soaking wet... FML

When we got home, I made these drawings of "Teruteru Bouzu(照る照る坊主)".

This is a traditional one, with its signature smile.

And the "moe(萌)" one.

And the Kuso one, my favorite for sure.

Japanese people hang this stuff(doll) on the rainy days praying for good weather. "Bouzu" means "monk" or ''shaven-headed'; "teru" means "shine"(not meaning its head),

You got animal balls in your mouth!

I had been wanting to draw this for a long time.

First saw this on a show of TLC, and it surprised me. I thought only Asians ate animal testicles, apparently I was wrong. Americans do too! You can find this special dish in Colorado, where people emasculated the bulls to make them less masculine, and the removed testicles became a local delicacy.

The host Adam(yes, it was "Man v.s Food") said it tasted really good, and it did look delicious! But I wonder I would try it if I had a chance.

Rocky Mountain Oysters are not OYSTERS!

heart broke into pieces...

My beloved Tokidoki keychain broke...

David got it for me together with Tokidoki makeups at Sephora back in 2010, the year we started dating. I still keep it, because it brings back memories.

A few days later, I found this JC keychain at a stall on a "family sale". But, it cost way too much even if  it was on sale! Can you believe I paid 50 bucks for this?

another way to release the stress

When it comes to the end of the month, I go insane. "Eat till you drop" is surely one of the best ways to release the stress.

What I mean is not you "actually" eat till you drop, but eat something you wanted to eat for a long time. It can be delicate dessert like "macaroon" or fatty junk food like Lay's chips.

So, we went back to our new favorite coffee shop - Ueshima. I had Brown Sugar Milk Coffee this time, a little bit sweet to be honest but still very smooth. If it was on a scale of 1 to 10, it was 9 for sure.

I don't know what Western people call this, but Japanese called it "danmen(断面)". Okay, it is like a grilled sandwich cut open, showing the melted cheese and the very juicy filling like bacon. Hmmmm

Had this seasonal Yogurt Flavored Pon De at Mister Donut on Saturday, and I liked it. No idea why they named it "Pon De", anyone knows?

Look what I got! Free gift with every $5 purchase!

Circus Afro? Afro Circus?

Saturday Ffion and I watched "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" in the theater. Ffion was too tired and she fell asleep in the beginning, but I had been laughing through the whole movie.

It was hilarious, I had Marty's "Circus Afro Song" in my head all day, when I got back home, I changed my ringtone. "Da-da-daladada circus da-da-daladada afro circus afro circus afro polka-dot polka-dot polka-dot afro "

I wanted to draw a clown, but it would take too much work. So, I drew a snow cone. Doesn't it look familiar?

Cereal bar? Hmmm, sounds like a plan.

Last night I watched a food show on TLC, and, they introduced a cereal bar in California called "Cereality".

So, I think it could be a good idea to open a cereal bar like this in the city I live.

OK-OK I know it doesn't look so yummy, but I was trying to express an idea that you can add whatever you like. Corn flakes don't have to go with strawberry and banana.

coffee break....after a long week

Saturday I had a really good time with Yvonne and Cosiya at Ueshima Coffee Lounge(上島珈琲). And soon, it became our new favorite coffee shop.

The tin cup actually kept the drink cold, which I liked it. Except for the special-made tin cup, the coffee was fabulous! Very smooth!

The sandwich I ordered was good too. Sesame toasts are healthy and very popular in Japan and Taiwan.

The bar counter.

I call this "Hollywood Style": a fine leather bag and a graphic tee that most celebrities wear, very casual. I am not a hipster, but c'mon, I was hanging out with YVONNE!

David said this t-shirt looked tattered, I told him it was WILDFOX, and it was made like this.

Xin chào!

I LOVE Vietnamese food! It is still my No. 1 exotic cuisine: low-fat. spicy and absolutely delicious.

So, we had another office lunch gathering at my favorite Vietnamese restaurant.

I don't know what Vietnamese people call this dish, it was like stir-fried rice noodles with egg, chicken and vegetable. Loved it!

"Summer Roll" is a must-order dish! I cannot tell the difference between "Summer Roll" and "Spring Roll", but we Chinese call this type of food "Spring Roll".

Again, I have no idea what Vietnamese people call this dish. It was like cold- sauced squid with vegetable, a little spicy.

Rice noodle soup with beef is not as strongly flavored, but still very tasty. The soup slightly boiled the uncooked beef, so the meat was tender and a little chewy.

More food porn to be updated!

Moomin's secret garden

For some reason, my mom started a hobby of "gardening" not long time ago. Well I am cool, at least that keeps her busy and happy.

So I took some pictures of mom's plants together with her Moomin toy.

If you have been following my blog, you might already notice that I did enjoy taking pictures of toys. (saying this like a popular blogger. lol)

And my Magic Love Hello Kitty. Finally unboxed it! I wanted it so badly, and one day David got it for me as a surprise. :)
